the setting beside the park, very peaceful location, the tradional interior
maybe ther could of been some hot dishes with breakfast, like sausage bacon etc...
Small hotel in an authentic 1900's town house. 15 minute walk to the city center. See the 2nd floor breakfast room for a glimpse of the lifestyle a hundred years ago. Rooms are comfortable, tiny bathroom, though. Beds to soft for my taste -- but that's definitely just a small minus.
Location in a calm residential neighborhood not too far from tourist sites. Free coffee/tea all day. Common sitting room overlooking the park. Free use of computers with internet access. Helpful staff.
There are drug addicts in the neighborhood (and in park in front of the hotel). They don't seem to bother anyone though.
Once you have got your head around Norwegian prices, Steens is actually good value for Bergen. It is comfortable with reasonably sized rooms, a pleasant building with some nice old features, and was well maintained and clean. Very much a large b&B.
On the down side, breakfast was limited, and parking was a problem if you had not secured a space outside the hotel (payable) well before arrival.A Real note of caution is that the hotel borders a public park which when we visited was busy all day with a noisy selection of drinkers and other substance misusers. Definately a no go area at night, and some guests were disturbed at night with the noise from the park.
Nice small hotel, good location, close to centre and park.
Still quite expensive considering that they made us to pay for an additional bed for a child
Excellent quiet location, we had a room with park view from our balcony.
Steens Hotel is a very comfortable hotel situated near a beautiful park and near the University of Bergen. The area is quiet and the atmosphere of the hotel relaxing. Buffet breakfast is rich with freshly baked bread. Free coffee/chocolate is offered all day long, which is especially wellcome during the chilly evenings.
It has no elevator so one has to carry the luggage up the stairs! Rather expensive. The DVD player that the hotel lend was not compatible with the TV, so one could not choose the subtitles, for example.
Helpful, friendly staff. Family atmosphere. Homey. Quiet for sleeping, but at the same time near the city center. I would stay there again. The breakfast is excellent, and I loved a cup of hot chocolate in the afternoon. The atmosphere is conducive to conversation among the guests, which is very nice.
Possibly the shower could be improved upon. The shower itself is excellent, but the whole bathroom floor gets wet.
The room was very comfortable for 2 persons and the breakfast room was a nice place to eat or just to hang out. We enjoyed the unlimted coffee/tea during the day. The short walk from downtown was perfect for us as a warm up to the day or as final exercise at the end of the day. The location was beautiful next to the park.
The only downside we experienced with the hotel was the bathroom was small and water ran all over from the shower, but this was minor and we learned to adapt.
Location....Breakfast room was eligant
The staff was very nice. Also it's great that they have tea and coffee during the day, and free breakfast in the morning. In a country where everything is very expensive, the bonuses are definitely appreciated. The location was great, you just walk left from the main station and you reach the hotel at the end of the road. The only thing I would say is negative is if you have a heavy wheeling luggage it might be a pain to get it up the hill to the hotel. Otherwise no complaints!
The room was maintained to a clean standard and kept cool. The Breakfast was continental buffet with some local Breakfast choices added. The fresh bread and local meats were especially nice and there was plentiful amounts to choose from. The staff were very helpful at all times with advice and providing us with anything we needed. The decor was traditional, it was overall a pleasanr environment to stay in.
The rooms were comfortable and clean
No lift, steep stairs to the rooms. No bar or mini bar in the room. Breakfast choice very limited.
Beautiful interior, excellent location in a quite area
Lovely old building in a quiet location across from the park. Comfortable rooms and courteous staff. Is only a 15 min walk to the centre of town.
Parking is on street.
